Are you the type of person that gets excited about planning an outfit for an upcoming occasion? I am one of those people. If you’re anything like me, you’re also the type of person that finds themselves a few days away from said occasion without having started your outfit. Panic ensues. We never learn.
If, on the other hand, you’re one of those organised super stars, well, you’re amazing and I admire you! But back to the other type: three weeks ago, I found myself in a sewing panic. The occasion that I had planned on sewing for was a two-week holiday, our first proper holiday in years.
We were getting ready to visit my parents, aka Nana and Poppy, in NSW. Followed by five days on the Gold Coast taking the kids to all the worlds, you know, Sea World, Movie World, yada, yada, yada.
I had such wonderful, lofty me-made outfit plans for this holiday. Yet, I found myself two weeks away from departure with nothing to show and very little time to sew. *Gasp* whatever did you do? I can’t hear you say. Well, I scrapped my original plans to sew several outfits and sewed up four fabulous pieces to zhush up my holiday wardrobe.
Alas, two days before our flight our daughter caught Covid and we ended up in isolation rather than on vacation. So, without further ado, from the comfort of my living room, here they are: four fabulous patterns that are stylish, versatile, easy-to-sew and perfect for your next sunny holiday (or for wearing around the house, with the heating on, dreaming about your next sunny holiday).
1. Nila Crop by Effortless Patterns
The Nila Crop is a super quick and easy make that uses the burrito method. For those that haven’t heard of the burrito method you basically stuff the fabric inside itself, like a burrito, and sew up the seams. You’re left with a little package of fabric that you pull through a tiny hole to reveal your seamless top. It’s basically a magic trick! Once you’ve made one you get the hang of it. Designed for 4 way stretch fabric. Check it out here.
2. Vacation Vibes Palazzo Pants by Pattern Emporium
Designed for woven fabric, these are a personal favourite of mine. I can’t go past a wide leg, high-waisted pair of pants with an elastic waistband. If high-waisted ain’t your thing though there’s a natural waist option, as well as multiple pockets, subtle or dramatic flare and different lengths. Even add a mock drawstring or belt loops if you fancy. Mine are subtle flare with no pockets (I’m a pocket lover but also time poor!). The fabric is the Avocado rayon from East Coast Fabrics.

3. Mandy Boat Tee by Tessuti
With its cute and casual boxy style, the Mandy Boat Tee is effortlessly chic. It’s such a great wardrobe staple that can be worn with anything, like your fave denim skirt or a nice pair of palazzo pants.
Mandy is designed for knit fabrics. I’ve made this one in a comfy French terry from Lush Fabrics. For cooler climates you could layer it with a jacket or make it in a warmer knit. Oh, and it’s a freebie! You can check it out here.
4. Reconnect Longline Cardigan by Pattern Emporium
You could make this one for warm or cold weather depending on fabric choice! It's designed for stretch knits, I used a double brushed poly from Lush Fabrics. Here I’ve thrown it on over a few different outfits I plan on wearing when we finally take our holiday! I think it zhuzhes them up a bit! What do you reckon?
Find the Reconnect Cardi here (Aff link)!
Let me know what you think of my fab four! Have you made any of these before?
