Fabric and Blankets and Booties-Oh My!

When I find a new sewing or craft project to try I usually go a bit nuts. Like the time I decided I wanted to make booties out of upcycled woollen blankets. For months I would arrive at op-shops right as they were opening and run to the blanket “district” just so I could be the first to look through the new donations. It still pains me to remember the time I was ten minutes late to Savers op-shop.

My cozy loves.

As I arrived I saw a customer at the checkout with a beautiful pink checked vintage woollen blanket. Wiping a tear from my eye and absolutely heart-broken I started to realise I might have a problem.

To confirm my suspicions, I also started running out of storage space for my (precious) blankets and started to feel the need to sneak them into the house without my husband noticing. My secret blanket shame! However, after I made a few pairs of adorable booties (if I do say so myself) I hastily moved on to my next project- bucket hats, and off I went to Spotlight to find some adorable cotton prints and interfacing, thankfully both of which are much less bulky and demand less storage space.

To be completely honest I never truly moved on from my blanket obsession (although I did stop blanket hunting). The thing is, with such an amazing online sewing and crafting community these days- between social media groups, pdf pattern designers and bloggers - you don’t need to look too far to find inspiration for new projects to try and more supplies to buy.

But with limited time, money and storage in mind I decided to find a different direction to channel my sewing and crafting energy - I love making, photography and writing so blogging feels like a good fit.

I’m super excited to start sharing with you my: sewing, crochet and craft makes; favourite patterns; latest sewing and crafting obsessions; and tips and tricks. There will also be some mishaps, adventures and general shenanigans thrown in (like the time I was crushed under a pile of woollen blankets that fell from the top of my wardrobe ;-D).

I hope you stick around and find something you like, whether that’s encouragement to try something new, finding your new favourite pattern or even just feeling a bit better about those 20 balls of yarn you bought on clearance (nice work btw - they will definitely come in handy!).

So, my fellow sew-crastinators, craft-a-holics and crochet addicts - welcome! I’d love to get to know you more. Feel free to leave a comment and share a bit about yourself! You can also find me on Instagram and Pinterest (I’ve just started a Pinterest account so there is not much to see as yet- stay tuned!).

In a couple of weeks, I’ll be sharing my next post which is about four great patterns I made to zhuzh up my holiday wardrobe for our first proper family holiday in years. Bye for now!
